Welcome to the very first issue of Offbeat, a brand new music magazine from the Ilearntoplay.com team. Whether you’re a music fan or a music maker - or both - we hope we’ll keep you entertained, informed and amused by our in-depth features and our relentless mockery of bands who take themselves far too seriously - and our love of bands who don’t take themselves seriously at all, like Mini Kiss (pictured).

So what’s in this debut issue? We discover why artists such as Radiohead and Prince are saying “cheerio” to traditional record deals, discover how U2 made The Joshua Tree - and how it nearly drove them doo-lally- and we have a chat about DIY music with upcoming singer-songwriter Caroline England.
Fancy some light relief? We’ve found some hilariously bad promo pics on MySpace and some hilariously funny music clips on YouTube, and we’ve burst a blood vessel ranting about the vowel abuse that makes so much chart music painful to listen to.
For musicians, there’s the chance to win Line 6’s excellent Pocket Pod, and we take an in-depth look at Gibson’s incredibly clever - and incredibly expensive - Robot guitar. You’ll also find a whole new section just for you: The Knowledge. Over the next few months The Knowledge will become a one-stop shop for everything musical, and as you’ll see there’s already loads of good stuff for your excitement and delightment. This month we focus on guitars: where they came from, how to find the right one for you, where to buy it and how to look after it.
The Knowledge isn’t just for plank-spankers, though. We also discover the Ten Commandments of Music Technology, and we discover the dark side of music gear - how it secretly plots to ruin your gigs, and how you can ensure every gig is fantastic rather than a fiasco.
We want Offbeat to be *your* magazine, so if there’s anything you’d like us to cover - or if you’ve found some hilarious promo pics, YouTube clips or other internet tomfoolery - then please let us know in the article comments. We can’t wait to hear from you.
