Jo Thompson is one of the UK's leading singing and voice coaches with over 20 years' experience in the business. After taking a music degree she worked as a professional singer for many years.
Whilst working as a jobbing singer she sang in a wide range of musical styles – from opera, oratorio and music theatre, to jazz and rock & pop.
Early on, however, she encountered a great deal of bad teaching from a number of singing teachers whose instruction actually threatened to permanently damage her voice. It was this that drove Jo to study the voice and technique in great detail and, ultimately, not only rebuild her own voice but pass on her knowledge of good practice to others.
Jo has worked extensively in TV, film and the music business. Her credits as a singing coach include the hit film Little Voice and the TV series Popstars the Rivals. She has made her name working not only with solo artists such as Craig David, Jane Horrocks and Sophie Ellis Bextor, but also many well-known groups including Steps, Liberty X and Five. Jo also works with TV presenters on general voice work.
For over two years Jo wrote articles on vocals for Guitarist magazine and is the author of 'The Complete Singer' (IMP/Warner Chappell 1997), a singing tutor book and a radical new self-help book for singers 'Find Your Voice' (Artemis Music 2004).
